How we test and refurbish every printer

Thermal Printer Outlet · Last reviewed June 2026

Each printer goes through the same six stages in the same order. Here is what happens at each one, and what you get at the end.

1. Test

We power the printer on, print a test label, check the label sensor, and test the USB connection. On models with Ethernet or Wi-Fi we test those too. We check the print for blank bands, streaks, or fade.

2. Repair

If anything fails, we fix it and test again. Worn parts such as the printhead or platen roller are replaced when needed. If the repair would cost more than the printer is worth, it does not ship as a printer. We use it for parts.

3. Paint

Worn panels are repainted where that gives a clean result.

4. Clean

We clean the printhead, the roller, the label path, and the housing, inside and out.

5. Final test

We print a run of labels on a fresh roll and look for jams, skew, and fade. Any failure goes back to repair.

6. Pack

The printer goes in the box with its power supply, power cable, and USB cable. We note the serial number before it ships.

What you can expect

A printer that has passed the final test, with the warranty described on the policy page. If something is wrong when it arrives, see how a warranty claim works.
